    вниз. Это главное, "нормальное" значение слова, а еще и разговорных - прорва, но все с тем же оттенком низа, низости, опускания, унижения, оставления позади, несерьезности, делания кое как.

    To put (someone) down — критиковать, жаловаться на кого-то.

    Downbeat — легкий, простой человек (в позитивном смысле), но и нечто депрессивное можно так обозначить.

    Get down — до противности многозначное выражение в разговорной речи. Может означать - заниматься чем-то всерьез, а может (у подростков) - иметь пресловутый fun. Так скажут и о балующемся героином, и о ведущем себя естественно, раскованно, слегка развязно.

    (*)Go down (on someone) — другие понятные синонимы будут - eat it, suck - см. соответствующие словарные гнезда, если сами уже не догадались.

    Down and dirty — нечто некрасивое (в переносном понимании), подлое, низкое, даже низкопробное. В том же смысле можно употребить и слово Lowdown, но оно имеет и второе значение - прямые факты, и третье (в среде музыкантов) - интенсивный стиль исполнения.

    Down and out — без копейки и без надежды.

    Go down in flames — потерпеть сокрушительное поражение.

    Down the drain — спустить в унитаз, в сугубо переносном смысле.

    Down trip, downer — что-то плохое: трудная ситуация, негативный опыт (в том числе, с наркотиками).

    Downer (downie) — так может называться и успокаивающее лекарство (барбитурат какой-нибудь), и любой наркотик - с уже менее прямым смысловым оттенком.

    Down (to) — наскоро перекусить.

    Down under — Австралия и Новая Зеландия (там же живут, как в старину говорили, "антиподы", вверх ногами по отношению к нам ходят).
